YB Fern

Hailing from Lexington, Kentucky, YB (Your Boy) Fern is a rapper, singer and songwriter with a unique blend of influences from all over the US. His highly anticipated single titled, "Stud Fee" was released in late October 2022.

An avid hip-hop fan since age 7, Fern credits Drake, Jack Harlow, and Post Malone as major influences on his style. While Fern says he has sung along and tried to imitate his favorite rappers for more than 20 years, he also credits his professional experience working as a communications director, writer and blogger as giving him tools to perfect his lyrics. He also says attending the Missouri Auction School as a teenager helped him develop a swift cadence that later translated to rapping and singing.

Fern's real name is John F. Cox. His friends started calling him "Fern" back in the fifth grade and most of his close friends still call him that to this day. When he is not rapping, Fern works full-time as a lobbyist in Frankfort, Ky., advocating for Kentucky's business community.

Prior to assuming his current position as a lobbyist, Cox worked as a communications director in state government and prior to that held various marketing and communications positions within the horse industry in both Lexington and Louisville.
